Cubes and Setts "Tozzetti"
NATURAL SURFACE / SPLIT SIDES
Porphyry cubes or "cubetti" represent suitable paving elements whether you are restoring a village street to its original state, paving a road in a major city, or renovating the exterior of a private residence or commercial building.
Porphyry cubes: a cladding material with superior qualities
Porphyry cubes owe their name to their shape, where their surface and thickness are roughly equal, although each of them has a rough and imprecise shape due to the mechanical processing performed manually by skilled workers. The various thickness / plate sizes, it corresponds to a different overall sizes, usually ranging between 4/6 and 14/18. Cubes which have a larger surface than their thickness are called "tozzetti".
How to use and lay porphyry cubes
Porphyry is often used to pave historic centres, pedestrian areas and pavements, as well as private gardens and streets. The cubes are divided into two classes: those with irregular edges, which are often used for the installation of interlinked arches or concentric circles, and those with fixed, regular edges, which are usually laid in parallel rows.
The most common installation option involves the use of interlinked arches, while arrangements with concentric arches guarantee an equally spectacular result, as do designs laid out in rows with fan, peacock tail, spiral or orthogonal patterns.
As a rule, larger cubes are used to pave roads with heavy traffic, while the smallest are suitable for pedestrian areas.
