PROCESSED SURFACE / SAWN OR PROCESSED SIDES
Machine-cut tiles are mechanically processed from "rough-sawn slabs" of Trentino porphyry. Their different surfaces are almost always smoothed and polished during the construction or laying process.
Different tile finishes work for different floors - here are the main ones:
- flamed surface tiles: are subjected to a thermal split or flaming which faithfully reproduces the natural colouring and consistency of quarry face but, unlike the latter, this is smoother and more homogeneous. Their edges are milled to a fixed thickness (2cm, 3cm or 4cm), a variable width (from 20 cm to 40 cm) and a fixed length. These are particularly suitable for paving entrances, terraces and interiors as well as for vertical cladding;
- antiques surface tiles: after flaming, the tiles are brushed with various sized diamond wheels to remove residual irregularities. This closes the pores of the surface, giving a regular and naturally shiny finish. These tiles are used for entrance, terrace and interior floors such as in bathrooms and/or kitchens;
- smooth or polished surface tiles: are abrased with special grinding stones, smoothing the surface to give a shiny finish. This mirror finish enhances colours and grains, bringing out the material's full natural beauty. They are suitable for internal use only (for example, office, museum, bank or shop flooring as well as bathroom surfaces and kitchen worktops).
